S-212 Wildland Fire Chainsaws May 12-13, 2021 (2 Days)

Description

The course lessons provide introduction to the function, maintenance and use of internal combustion engine powered chainsaws, and their tactical wildland fire application. Field exercises support entry level training for firefighters with little or no previous experience in operating a chainsaw, providing hands-on cutting experience in surroundings similar to fireline situations. Training will include classroom discussion, sand table exercises (STEX) and field sessions.

Objectives

  • Define and apply chainsaw safety standards as required by OSHA and agency handbooks, manuals, directives, and owner’s manuals.
  • Identify and demonstrate basic chainsaw operation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and safety features.
  • Demonstrate the tactical application of chainsaws in fireline construction and mop up operations. 
  • Satisfies NWCG minimum course requirement of 25 hours.

Target Group

Individuals desiring to be qualified as Basic Faller (FAL3), Firefighter Type 1 (FFT1), Incident Commander Type 5 (ICT5), or Felling Boss, Single Resource (FELB).

Prerequisite Qualifications and Training

  • Qualified as a Firefighter Type 2 (FFT2).

Auto-X West May 21-23, 2021 (3 Days)

Registration Deadline: May 14, 2021 Cost: $250.00 per student

Colorado River Fire Rescue will be hosting Auto X West May 21-23, 2021.

  • The primary focus will be light rescue extrication.
  • Hands on sessions will include hand tools, stabilization, and hydraulic tools (Battery and hose driven). Instruction will include basic extrication techniques and stabilization. Evolutions will progress from basic scenarios to complex situations with multiple companies working together.
  • Training emphasis will be placed on minimum man power in a rural environment.
  • Top Instructors from around Colorado will be leading the training exercises.
